2019 Curtiss League Kick-Off highlights conservation

Departments of Entomology and Natural Resource Ecology and Management host CALS young alums

Daniel J. Robison, endowed dean's chair in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, joined Sue Blodgett on Saturday, March 30, to welcome members of the CALS young alumni initiative, Curtiss League, back to campus for their annual kick-off event. Attendees shared their advice for incoming ISU students, learned about a variety of conservation practices, and enjoyed hands-on activities led by faculty and staff from the departments of Entomology and Natural Resource Ecology and Management (NREM), including:

  • Sue Blodgett, department chair -- Highlights from Entomology and NREM
  • Keith Bidne, USDA-ARS staff -- Monarch butterfly biology, annual migration, and life stages
  • Dick Schultz, NREM professor -- Global programs and service learning with CALS
  • Jan Thompson, NREM professor -- Urban riparian buffer design + field tour in Ames
  • Audrey Kennis, CALS staff -- Student recruitment and retention
  • Daniel J. Robison, endowed dean's chair -- The CALS advantage + group photo
