RECAP: Madison County monarch field day

Madison County landowners Don Eyerly and J.D. Schruers hosted field day participants on Sept. 26 for a tour of pollinator habitat plantings near Winterset, Iowa. The event was presented by Madison County Extension, Iowa Pheasants Forever, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and the Iowa Monarch Conservation Consortium. Presentations included: 

  • Monarch habitat assistance and cost share programs -- Kelsey Fleming, biologist with Iowa Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever
  • Establishing monarch and pollinator habitat -- Seth Appelgate, agricultural specialist with Iowa State University
  • Monarch butterfly monitoring in Iowa -- Karen Kinkead, wildlife diversity program coordinator, Iowa DNR​​​​​​
