Three Hundred 4th Graders Enjoyed Learning about Monarchs at the 'Ag-Citing' Event in Buena Vista County

Map of Monarch Migration Monarch butterflies were a hit at ‘Ag-Citing’ activities at the ISU Buena Vista County Extension program that was held September 23rd and 24th.  Three hundred 4th graders from Buena Vista County visited the ISU Allee Research and Demonstration Farm just outside of Newell.  Students rotated among eight stations.  At the monarch butterfly stop students visited the demonstration plots of the nine milkweed species planted at each of the ISU Research and Demonstration Farms.  They also observed and discussed monarch life stages and were able to tag an adult butterfly through the Monarch Watch program. Students and their teachers will be following the butterfly’s’ progress as they begin their migration to Mexico.
