Update on Species Status Assessment for Monarch Butterfly

In 2014, the Service was petitioned to protect the monarch butterfly under the Endangered Species Act. As a result of that petition, the US Fish and Wildlife Service is now conducting a thorough assessment to determine if Endangered Species Act protection for this butterfly is warranted.
